A weight stack is defined as the maximum weight that may be raised on the apparatus. For strength training up to 80 kg would be considered useful. A pin is provided to select the desired weight required for training. Certain manufacturers have provided two stacks of weights. They allow partners to train together by allowing more than one person to train on a single machine. Two stacks also means that when you train on your own you may change exercises without too much swapping around.
One advantage to owning a home gym is that the user is correctly positioned for any lifting exercises which helps to reduce the chance of being injured. The position of the body during training is known as biomechanics. Each person uses a different position for effective training. An adjustable machine is desirable especially if the body is shorter or taller than the average.
During training, the machine may need to be constantly adjusted, for example uncoupling the weights from the leg extension and coupling them to the press arms. The switches are not difficult but can disrupt a training session. Good models will allow the completion of ten exercises before changes are required.
The home gym equipment takes up a fair amount of space and some are quite tall though a few are able to fold up. Make sure the ceiling is high enough to accommodate the machine and check that the floors of any upstairs rooms can carry the extra weight.
